Fibre Optic Cabling
Red Rock are experts in installing, testing and maintaining all types of fibre optic cabling, we regularly work with the following types of cable:
- Multimode Fibre
- Singlemode Fibre
- Termination and Testing

Multimode Fibre
This can include OM1, OM2, OM3 and OM4 fibres. The majority of installations are carried out using OM3 and OM4. These can provide speeds of up to 40 Gbps but predominately are used to achieve link speeds of 10 Gbps. OM1 and OM2 are essentially redundant due to only being able to provide speeds of 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps, respectively. Advantages of multimode fibre are cost-effectiveness and very high speeds over short to medium distances.

OS1 and OS2 fibres. Where very long distances are involved then the use of singlemode fibre is advised due to it being able to maintain gigabit speeds over many kilometres. The downsides are cost and equipment. Due to the requirements of singlemode fibre and the much tighter tolerances both the material cost, termination costs and end-user equipment costs are all higher.
All fibres can be installed using either the tight-buffered or loose tubed variants. Essentially, the difference is between external and internal environments.
Termination and Testing
We can offer terminations to suit any requirement from LC to SC to ST using our fusion splicer. Equipping our engineers with the latest technologies including a fusion splicer mean that any terminations carried out by Red Rock are of a very high quality and suffer from very low signal loss.
We test all fibres using a fibre tester which saves all results, which can then be emailed as a PDF document for future reference. We can also carry out repairs to existing fibre optics cables quickly and efficiently and get you back up and running in a fraction of the time required to re-install a new fibre optic link.
